Moritz Schlick - Gesamtausgabe

Nachlass und Korrespondenz

Moritz Schlick is one of the most influential figures in 20th century philosophy. As a representative of scientific philosophy and founder of the "Vienna Circle" of logical empiricism, he gave decisive impetus to modern philosophy of language and theory of science.

The Academy's long-term goal is to make Moritz Schlick's scientific legacy and correspondence accessible in a scientifically sound edition. Schlick's bequests and letters are currently in archives or private possession and have hardly been researched to date. The edition of the estate and correspondence will complete the 30-volume Moritz Schlick Complete Edition. With the Moritz Schlick Complete Edition, the entire oeuvre of the pioneer of analytical philosophy and scientific theory of the 20th century will for the first time be made accessible to international research and the interested public. In this way, a critical-systematic as well as historical-scientific and philosophical examination of Schlick's thinking is made possible and the work on further research projects is stimulated. It thus makes a contribution to the reappraisal and re-evaluation of the Vienna Circle, which in recent years has increasingly moved into the focus of international research.

The project is being developed at the Moritz-Schlick Research Centre at the University of Rostock, which has been dedicated to the reappraisal of Schlick's life, work and impact since 1998. In close cooperation with the Institute Wiener Kreis at the University of Vienna and the Research Centre and Documentation Centre for Austrian Philosophy (FDÖP) in Graz, Moritz Schlick's writings published during his lifetime have already been critically edited and commented upon.
