Année Philologique

The Année Philologique is the only complete international and annually published scholarly bibliography for the entire field of Classical Studies. It covers the fields of literature (pagan and early Christian), linguistics, text history, archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics, papyrology, history (including economic, social history and history of mentalities), religion, law, philosophy and natural sciences, as well as the corresponding history of science. It covers the three millennia from about 2000 BC (Mycenaean, Crete) to 800 AD (early Christianity, early Middle Ages and early Byzantium).

The project is divided into different departments: The head office is located in Paris, there are branches in Chapel Hill/North Carolina (since 1965), in Heidelberg (since 1972), in Genoa (since 1995) and in Granada (2000). The Heidelberg Research Centre processes literature published in Germany and in Austria, which accounts for about 20% of the total. The Année Philologique is published once a year in the form of a book, which currently contains about 14,000 entries on about 1,200 pages. In 1995, the CD-ROM "The Database of Classical Bibliography" appeared for the first time, which contains the Année volumes from 1974 to 1989 and includes numerous research options. Finally, the data of the Année volumes from 1969 to 2000 can be accessed via the Année Philologique database on the Internet.
