The writings of Martin Luther, collected in 70 volumes in the "Weimarer Ausgabe", represent the most important work of a German author before Goethe in terms of volume and weight. Their national and international impact reaches far beyond the history of church and theology into the general cultural and intellectual history. No writer before or after Luther has had a comparable influence on the development of the German language. Due to its scope and diversity, his work is difficult to overview. The registers will access the abundance of available texts for theologians as well as for philologists, historians of philosophy, art, law, sociology and of all disciplines, also for interested parties from church, politics, culture and other areas of public life.
After the index of places (1986) and the index of persons (1987), all five volumes of the the Latin subject index were published in 1990 – 1999. The German subject index will also contain five volumes.
