The Arthurian novel 'Parzival' by Wolfram von Eschenbach is one of the most important poems of courtly literature around 1200. 1833's basic edition by Karl Lachmann, at the time an editorial masterpiece, can no longer meet current text-critical requirements, as it only takes into account a fraction of the sources known today and does not sufficiently document the variance of the medieval text. In order to provide the scientific community with a solid new edition, the 'Parzival' project is therefore working on a complete edition in digital and printed form, which will be published in a database and later in book form. See the website: www.parzival.unibe.ch.
The project of the new 'Parzival' edition contains three modules which build on each other:
(1) Transcription of all text ressources and their web-based presentation in digital facsimiles.
(2) Synoptic edition of the four text-versions.
(3) Concentration of the synoptic edition into a single reference text based on the complete corpus.
The project is internationally and interdisciplinarily networked (e.g. in the fields of Digital Humanities, 'New Stemmatology' - Phylogenetic Analysis, automatic character recognition, Romance studies, librarianship) and well anchored in the Swiss research landscape (e.g. through cooperation with the "Data and Service Center for the Humanities, DaSCH", with "e-codices" and the Bern Master's program "Editionsphilologie").
