Corpus der prähistorischen Bronzefunde

In the project "Prehistoric Bronze Finds" (PBF), which has been funded by the German Research Foundation since 1966 and passed into the care of the Academy at the beginning of 2002, the Copper, Bronze and Early Iron Age finds from the end of the 4th to the middle of the 1st millennium B.C. from Central Europe and its mainly eastern peripheral regions, as far as they consist of copper or bronze, are edited corpus-like. As far as objectively required, objects from other materials (especially bones, precious metals, partly also iron) are also used.

Within the framework of the edition, the objects - if possible based on drawings from the originals - are presented and described in illustrations of uniform scale. This includes information on the place where the objects were found, the circumstances in which they were found, the accompanying finds, their place of storage and essential literature. The edition is based on a classification of the find material according to typological, functional, chronological and chorological criteria. In addition, the edition endeavours to provide a more detailed analysis of the source material from a source-critical, settlement, economic, social and religious historical point of view. The broad field of work means that the project can only be realised in cooperation with numerous colleagues and institutions from the countries concerned.
