AGATE

The Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales (EM) is a handbook on historical and comparative narrative research. It comprehensively presents the results of one and a half centuries of international research work in the field of folk narrative traditions in the past and present. The work focuses on the oral and literary narrative forms of Europe and the cultures influenced by Europe, but also endeavours to give appropriate consideration to non-European cultural circles. In addition, the various source areas are used to illustrate the constant interrelationships between literature and folk traditions. The information presented in the EM is of interest to experts from a wide range of research fields: Folklorists, philologists, ethnologists, religious scientists, sociologists, psychologists, pedagogues, art historians, media researchers and others. The Göttingen Research Centre has a worldwide unique archive of several 100,000 narrative texts as well as a special library with about 6,000 volumes. The more than 400 authors of the EM to date come from more than 50 countries on all continents.
