Research Project, 1968–2017
A project of the
Academy, since 1970
Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony
The aim of the project is the lexicographical recording and indexing of the sacred writings of the Buddhists in the Sanskrit dictionary of Buddhist texts from the Turfan finds (SWTF), which mainly belong to the literature of the Sarvastivada school and were discovered on the "Silk Road".
The SWTF is of fundamental importance for Sanskrit philology and an important tool for Buddhist research. The work is carried out in cooperation with Buddhism researchers at home and abroad (especially in Japan).
Since 2001 about half of the dictionary has been in print. Results of the cooperation will also be published in supplements to the dictionary. The series of international Buddhological Symposia (1974-1988), which are funded by third parties, has been completed with its publication.
The dictionary is under the patronage of the Union Académique Internationale (Brussels) as project C 50.
