Lexikon des frühgriechischen Epos

Thesaurus Linguae Graecae

The lexicon of the early Greek epic deals with the oldest texts of the Greek literature, mainly with the Homeric epics "Iliad" and "Odyssey" and with the Homeric hymns and the works of Hesiod. The central theme is Homer's poetry, because it has shaped the development of Greek as well as Roman and modern poetry decisively. The lexicon lists all the words and names with their references that appear in the text material. Each entry contains sections on the etymology, on the position in the verse, about the ancient explanations and about the modern secondary literature. The focus is on the analysis of meaning. The speech and thought forms of epic poetry should be apprehended by their own conditions and in their specific context. The lexicon understands itself as a service in the interest of the professional public and is intended to provide the user with a direct and up-to-date access to epic vocabulary.
