API Description

AGATE offers all content as Linked Open Data over this RESTful API. The API implements the Hydra-Specification of the W3C Hydra Community Group. The semantic description of this API can be retrieved by clients via the Hydra documentation file (JSON). Each metadata record offered via this API can also be retrieved in one of following machine-readable LOD serializations.

The project focuses on alpine glaciers and their role in the continental hydrologic cycle, as climate indicators and their interaction with the solid earth. In addition to many years of intensive research work on the Vernagtferner, the "house glacier" in the Ötztal Alps, investigations are being carried out in various glacier regions, e.g. Iceland, Norway, the Pamir, and the Karakorum. Along with classical field measurements from geodesy and glaciology, modern satellite methods are also used. Interactions between glaciers and their environment are modelled on the basis of the data obtained in this way as a function of climatic changes. At the same time, geodetic work on geodynamics and reference systems will be carried out as a basis for a variety of further investigations in the geosciences.

The project is funded by the Free State of Bavaria since 2016 under the name Erdmessung und Glaziologie.

Im Mittelpunkt des Vorhabens stehen alpine Gletscher und ihre Rolle im kontinentalen Wasserkreislauf, als Klimaindikatoren und ihre Wechselwirkung mit der festen Erde. Neben langjährigen, intensiven Forschungsarbeiten am Vernagtferner, dem "Hausgletscher" in den Ötztaler Alpen, werden Untersuchungen in verschiedenen Gletscherregionen, z. B. in Island, Norwegen, im Pamir und im Karakorum durchgeführt. Dabei kommen neben klassischen Feldmessungen aus Erdmessung und Glaziologie auch moderne Satellitenverfahren zum Einsatz. Auf der Basis der so gewonnenen Daten werden die Interaktionen der Gletscher mit ihrer Umwelt in Abhängigkeit der klimatischen Veränderungen modelliert. Parallel werden geodätische Arbeiten zur Geodynamik und zu Referenzsystemen als Basis für vielfältige weitere Untersuchungen in den Geowissenschaften durchgeführt.

Das Projekt wird seit 2016 vom Freistaat Bayern unter dem Namen Erdmessung und Glaziologie gefördert.
