Edition griechischer Urkunden

The Commission for the Corpus of Greek Documents, established by the founder of Byzantine Studies, Karl Krumbacher, has been collecting and researching Greek documents of the Middle Ages (330 - 1453 AD) since 1900. Initially, the work was focused on the imperial charters as the most important genre of document. The systematic indexing was carried out in five extensive volumes (1924 - 1995, partly available in a second, improved edition). At present, the revision of the first volume of the register of decrees is in progress (the first half volume for the years 867 to 1025 is in print, the second half volume for the years 565 to 867 is in preparation), with which the work will be completed. Subsequently, the publication of the imperial charters is planned according to the ‚Kanzleiprinzip'. The Commission is in possession of a unique photographic archive which contains not only imperial charters but also a large number of charters of secular and ecclesiastical dignitaries and even private documents.
