The Greek papyri from Egypt represent one of the most important documentary sources of antiquity with over 45,000 published texts from the period 331 BC - 641 AD. The papyri provide evidence of ancient history, economic and social history, legal history, religious history and classical philology. Das Wörterbuch der griechischen Papyrusurkunden aus Ägypten (WB), das Sammelbuch (SB) and die Berichtigungsliste (BL) serve to index the material already published and the texts still to be published.
The WB is intended to make the entire vocabulary of the documentary papyri accessible. Volumes I-IX reproduce the documents published until 1949 with German translation. The material published later is indexed as a supplement.
The SB records the documents not published in standard editions, but scattered in journals, Festschriften, monographs. These are reprinted in a revised form according to uniform criteria; the volumes are indexed by subject and word indexes.
The BL - edited in cooperation with the Papyrological Institute of the University of Leiden - records the corrected readings and interpretations of already edited documents. For this purpose, the entire literature of classical studies is screened, in Germany the German-language literature, in Leiden the other literature.
