AGATE

The project is supervised by the Commission "Wissenschaftsgeschichte (Naturwissenschaften/ Mathematik/ Technik)". The aim of the project is to develop historical statements about the chronological and disciplinary structures in mathematics and physics as well as to summarize the results of work from biographical and bibliographical aspects. Furthermore, an electronic database on the history of the natural sciences will be established. These objectives have been achieved in the three subprojects "Chronologie zur Geschichte der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik", "J.C. Poggendorff - Biographisch-literarisches Handwörterbuch der exakten Naturwissenschaften. Teilband Mathematik" and "Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Mathematik und Physik in Deutschland am Beispiel mitteldeutscher Hochschulen". Research on the first two projects has been completed. As a result, the "Chronologie zur Geschichte der Naturwissenschaften" was published in May 2002 and the "Sub-volume Mathematics" in 2003.
